I do not know how old you are (trying not to insult!), but it might be worth you trying Network Rail as they enjoy training schemes & apprentiships which would train you up surrounded by the area that you are looking at. the sense that I say this is because LUL thesedays for the most part uses Tubelines & Metronet for their Project work IE: track replacement & Station Rebuilding. While Network Rail is in house & at the moment we are looking for Project Planners for loads of Projects resembling Kings Cross, 2012, Crossrail, Thameslink.
