In NYS, accidents always become a part of your driving record up in Albany, but for current purposes, it's 3 years.
Same thing goes for insurance companies. It doesn't matter whether or not you have a CDL, it's the same for anyone.
The only difference with a CDL, is what action your company has to take in order to comply with Federal Rules (CFR 49). You could be sent for retraining and if you accumulate points, because the investigating officer was able to find you at fault & issue a summons or summonses then NYS could revoke your CDL. You would then have to go through the whole process again of getting one.
