Anybody know anything more or less NYS motor insurance?

My car insurance lapsed and I didin't know more or less it, because I misunderstood my policy. My car is registered surrounded by my name, but my boyfriend still have current insurance for both of us through his (Geico.) Am I still covered? I'm scared I've be driving around uninsured, but I'm also scared to call upon the DMV, because I don't have an alternate mode of transportation to work and school events. Please answer one and only if you're sure of your answer, this is a nerve racking situation. Thanks for the lend a hand!!

Answers:    NYS is funny about that. They (and other states) insist that I can't breed a profit by insuring YOUR car. And the insurance company won't compensate me, if you crash, either.

Because of that, even if your BF list your car on his policy, it's not really covered. The label on the insurance policy, title, and registration all must MATCH.

Yes, you've be driving around uninsured. And you have to gain it straightened out pretty darned quick. I've deal with the NYS DMV (they hold a lovely website your agent can get onto, and fax over proof of insurance devout for 10 days until they get the facts downloaded from the insurance company). They're very strict. If you move about long enough beside no insurance, they suspend the registration on your plates for 30 days.

No, you're not covered under someone else's policy, if they roll your car, and don't own it. And it won't make somebody`s day the DMV in NY, any.
If your boyfriend has insurance on your coup¨¦, then it should cover you. You want to get a copy of his policy and read it to see if within are any exclusions that may pertain to you.

If his insurance isn't specifically for your car, later you're not covered.
No, you are not covered on your boyfriend's policy because YOU own your car & he can't insure it because he doesn't own it, sorry. Even if you are timetabled on his policy as a driver, it will not cover YOUR car.
Best article to do is to go out & draw from a policy on your car surrounded by your name today. There are websites (GEICO have one & Progressive has one) that you can move about online & buy a policy immediately, 24 hrs a hours of daylight. You can also go to an agent today first point in the morning. Have your boyfriend drive you over contained by his car because you will not enjoy insurance for the ride to the agent in your vehicle.
Then, once you get you policy, read & grasp it, know when you will get bills & settle up them on time, in the past a cancellation observe is issued. Companies like Progressive do not enjoy a grace period on the renewal, it merely expires unless it is paid past the renewal date. But, they will reissue your policy with a lapse if it is remunerated late (on renewal only).
Good luck to you but please don't drive until you own insurance on your car.
IN MOST STATES YOU WILL BE COVERED AS LONG AS YOUR BOYFRIEND AS NOTIFIED HIS INSURANCE COMPANY AND YOU ARE LISTED AS A DRIVER ON HIS POLICY.

THIS HOWEVER WILL INCREASE HIS INSURANCE AS WELL DEPENDING ON YOUR DRIVING HISTORY.

I WOULD STILL CALL THE DMV OFFICE AND JUST ASK THEM WITHOUT GIVING OUT ANY OF YOUR INFORMATION.
