I like hondas and toyotas but other cars would be fine!

there are plenty of good first cars out there. you are going to want something that is reliable and economical, as well as being easy to drive. when you sit in a car, make sure you are comfortable in the car. if there is something you dont like about the car, dont buy it. as to specific cars, the honda civic, toyota corolla, mazda 3, ford taurus, chevy malibu, are some of the cars i recommend. have a qualified mechanic check the car over before you buy to be sure the car is in good condition, and dont worry about high mileage as long as the car is in good shape.
when you find the car you like, the first thing you want to do is have the oil changed, even if it looks fresh, and have the transmission flushed, along with the cooling system. this wont cost too much, but will pay dividends in the long run. also go to the dealer and see if you can get them to sell you, or tell you where you can buy, an owners manual for the car. when you get one, read it over thoroughly to get an understanding of the car. you might also stop by a place like pepboys, or autozone and buy a repair manual for the car. a haynes manual will do fine. again study this manual. you will find that there are small repairs that you can do to save you money, and you will learn about the car, so that when you have to take it to a shop, you can understand what the service writer is talking about.
honda civic
toyota corolla
volkswagon jetta
mazda 6
there all pretty good priced around $15,000 brand new and they look good. good luck with your choice.
Kia Rio. Cheap, reliable, backed by great warranty!
For a first time driver, it really depends. I'd go with something a little older, like mid 90s, to keep the price down until you get into driving some. Honda Civics are generally one of the most common first drivers. If you can find an later model Mustang or Camaro it makes for a really good bargain between nice and cheap (especially the V6 engines) but the gas mileage isn't anywhere nearly as good and insurance is pricier. Chevy Cavaliers are great cars too for regular commute. They are a little nicer than hondas, have pretty good reliability, are relatively safe, and are in the same cheaper price range.
