In the state of Missouri, what do you do if you buy a car and the guy from another state signed the wrong line

Question:
This is an old muscle car bought in TX and is now fixed up. I just realized that the previous owner signed the wrong line so what can I do so I can change the title and sell it. I have tried to contact the dealer by mailing him a letter but still no response!

Answers:
Actually a Texas title won't do you much good in Missouri even if was signed on the right line. You are supposed to change it into your name when you buy it and get a new title.

To quote the TX page, Consumer Alert for Vehicle Buyers/Sellers

Whenever a vehicle is sold in Texas, state law requires the vehicle be titled in the buyer’s name within 20 working days.

Texas will want the fees due to it, tax on the vehicle and transfer and license fees. Contact Texas at http://www.dot.state.tx.us/default.htm... and see if there is anything you can do at this point.
Oh my god, I actually had the SAME EXACT PROBLEM on my first car! Guy I bought this old banger from signed the line I was suppose to sign. I went through and signed the line where he was suppose to sign, then put a little arrow in the middle to show that they should be swapped and got him to initial it along with me. The DMV took it just fine. I really think you're going to have to get that title signed with those initials to show the correction, but you should call the DMV and ask what they'll take! No use going through so much hard work for naught.
Call the MO DMV and ask what to do. As long as the sellers signature is on there it shouldn't be a huge issue.
I wouldn't worry about it because this sort of thing happens all the time. If you have the bill of sale, take that and the title to the DMV. You should be just fine.
