The car is insured just in someone elses name, but is it illegal if you drive the car while youre (not the owner, a relative) driving it when you're not covered in the policy?
Answers:
Absolutely! If the insurance stipulates that you are not on the driving list, it means if you get into an accident and your mother is reportedly driving the car, they won't pay. She won't be arrested though. If she has a driver's license and it is valid, but I'm not sure that she won't get a ticket. I am also assuming that a police report has been written.
All auto-insurance contracts give coverage to drivers who have permission to use the vehicle by the owner.
Sorry..no coverage if you steal the vehicle.
Example: If your friend lends you the vehicle.his insurance covers you as the driver of his auto.
Only if you get caught
I believe it legal as long as you are authorized to use the vehicle. I believe only if a relative lives in the same household should be listed on the policy unless they have there own.
While it is illegal to drive an uninsured vehicle (that is why you will get a ticket if caught driving w/out insurance), if the vehicle owner has insurance, it should be covered. Insurance carriers vary, however, so you would need to check with the individual's insurance company.
only if they catch you =)
no it's not. as long as the car has insurance, you're legal.
