NY state plates and license. Just moved to NY state from NJ but still hold nj residence?

A cop just stopped my boyfriend contained by my car and told him he would impound my vehicle for have nj plates when my boyfriend told him he was coming from my apartment surrounded by NY state. I consider my primary residednce to be in nj and I rent an apartment up surrounded by ny state. Do I have to switch? What do I do? Anyone know?

You and your boyfriend just "moved to NY state"? later, yes you have to switch, you own an address in NY (NY doesn't strictness where your "residency" is...you rent within NY now right?)...NY have more stupid rules and regulations...not only do you requirement NY plates, but you need a NY inspection too, something like 21 $....make sure adjectives your emissions crap is working...because if you are polluting, it will not surpass...I don't think any other state really checks this?? dunno....

Take it to the DMV and remuneration the 50 some odd dollars to register it !

Anyway, savour the taxes and added fees included when moving to NYS!
