Why is this ?
Also, most F-14s have a radome that was two colors : white next to pale pale at the front.
( I have also see one F-14 that had a white radome beside gull grey at the front where the sickly usually is .)
Then there are other F-14s that completely paint the entire proboscis of the aircraft.
So what was it - in recent times style, or was in that actually a function to it ?
One other ask about the F-14 : Will one ever fly at an airshow again, or own they all be scrapped ?
Answers: Radomes are made of composite bits and pieces (not metal) so they are transparent to the radar antenna. Usually, those composites (kevlar usually) have a yellowish tint which the inherent color of the fiber used (aramid). They are not painted as some paint pigment could interfere (again) with the radar top.
Not sure about your radome query (very observant as I've never really noticed the variation you mention).
As far as F-14s every flying again...highly doubtful (as lowest American F-14s). We're very determined to form sure Iranian F-14s will not fly or at least be intensely limited surrounded by their capabilities. To the best of my experience, all F-14s are individual destroyed as well as any spare parts that could drop into Iranian hands.
Our radom is fiberglass and painted white. Prettier that path.
not sure about the color entry. But, on the other hand, they will not fly again. This have been confirmed by multiple sources. The principle being that the F-14 is simply matured and outdated. With new technology such as an F-22, F/FA-18 hornet, F-15 eagle, and or course, the F-16 falcon. Oh, but as far as drawing the nose go, it might be for visibility. Planes have a inclination to blend in person gray and all. So, it might be so that refulers and other aircraft can pick it up easier. Other than that, i dont know.
