I'm curious, though. Can they be that well-mannered? Is there really that much separation between Toyota and their competitors? Has someone, somewhere have a Toyota they would call a "lemon"?
Answers: You can look into the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration - Office of Defects Investigation for complaints on any vehicles by :year, cause , model etc
Here are the current formal complaints (17) filed by owners of the 2007 Corolla:

The '07 Camry have well over 300 formal safekeeping complaints,

so the reputation of Toyota's seems to enjoy diminished substatially, at least surrounded by the eyes of the owners filing complaints.
From indistinguishable government site you can also review :
Recalls
Defect Investigations
Technical Service Bulletins
Another site that you can research is :
ConsumerAffairs.com
There is a lawsuit going on concerning Toyotas & their prepondancy to engine sludge build-up:

Consumer Report Magazine recently made a blanket statement that Toyota's level & reputation had be slipping substantially & they actually put the Camry & the Tundra on their "We do NOT recommend" schedule!
There is a lot of information on "the net" available to consumers. I tend NOT to viewpoint the typical 'Car Magazine' articles & reviews, as these are often vastly biased due to the nature of a magazine advertising/profit policies.
But the sites that are NOT driven by profitible advertisers (ie; the government sites & notes research sites) & the consumer advocate sites are the ones that bestow you a much more accurate depiction of an auto manufacturer.
I worked at a Toyota Dealer for a long time and I can convey you that Toyota's are amazing vehicles especially if you enjoy them serviced on a regular basis. I enjoy a 97 Tacoma with over 300,000 miles on it
