Answers: You need to wish what type of boat you require, ie. do you want to spend the odd weekend sleeping on the train, if so maybe a small powerboat beside a cuddy berth will do. theres a few here to look at. shop around and get lots of warning before you buy. we rushed out and bought a yacht when we didnt even know how to tie a kink. ha ha . moorings are expensive. my boat was moored on a swing mooring contained by poole harbour 10 years ago and cost lb1200 a year. contained by lymington it will not be cheap.swing moorings are probably cheaper but it means you will call for to row out to your boat. you will also have to pay cheque harbour dues annually. ive forgotten how much but its not a huge amount. you might be better rotten with a smallish lodge cruiser that you take out of the hose down each time on a trailer, i.e. tedious but cheaper than paying for moorings moral luck, have fun and watch out

Staying surrounded by those price constraints you would probably not be able to buy much more than a 20 footer a couple years mature or something smaller new. Mooring surrounded by the U.S. will run you $600-1000 for about that size, i don't know almost the U.K. Crownline would be and excellent brand to buy a first boat from. I am not sure if they sell to the U.K., but my first boat be a 19ft Crownline and it was a great starter.

economically for 5k i doubt you will get anything and for 10k you might gain a old 21-26ft sailing boat next to a small cabin nouns, which can still be great fun. mooring costs are expensive on the south coast but for a 25footer prob about lb1000 - lb2000 a year
we hold a 54ft (15m) one off trawler yacht ( its up for Dutch auction @150k) it costs us (6k) a year to keep it contained by a fully serviced marina. plus maintanence costs which can be about another 3-5k. its only just getting to expensive now they newly keep ramping the price of moorings and diesel up.
to grasp a better idea of what you might achieve go to the appoloduck website. for your money you might be better next to a small sports boat on a trailer or simply a sailing dinghy?? you would get a fantastic time fishing boat about 16 - 18 foot for that dosh or a fantastic 21 ft sports boat similar to a ring or a phantom
boating is fun and the solent is a wicked place to play.
you will hold to learn to read charts and take in tides esecially in the solent as it can be harmful, but its not rocket science. with a small sports boat these arnt so vital!

What nice of craft, sail, motor-sailer, cruiser, dingy, fishing boat, trailer boat etc etc etc. Do a bit of research into what you might resembling to do and then try it out by hiring a boat, joining a club, reading boating magazine, and talking to indisputable people not geeks on AutoQnA.com. You will find a great definite world out there but it can be expensive - several thousand pounds a year if you choose wrong.
