Boat inspections surrounded by California?

Does anyone know of any reputable marine mechanics that do boat inspections within California? A rough cost would be appreciated as well. The boat will be beneath 25ft
Cheers

Answers:    What kind of inspection are you looking for??

The Coast Guard Axillary will do a standard safekeeping inspection for free. They check for compliance with local, state and federal regulations and safekeeping items. If you are looking for an inspection of condition for selling or buying, you want a certified marine surveyor. Depending on your location, a survey will cost anywhere from $5 - $10 per foot.
I suggest you contact the coast guard auxillary
as they will do *free* boat inspections (you cant bring back it any cheaper then that!)
from their website:
VESSEL SAFETY CHECKS
The Vessel Safety Check is a complimentary check of your boat conducted by member of the Auxiliary, confirming that it meets both federal and state requirements for safekeeping.

No citations are issued and the results of the safety check are not reported to any enforcement agency, but a decal is awarded to display if the vessel have passed the examination.

An example of some of the items checked include:

* Personal Flotation Devices (life jackets)
* Registration and numbering
* Navigation lights
* Ventilation
* Fire extinguishers
* Distress signals (flares, horn, etc.)
* Battery cover and connections

All of these items are currently required by state and federal law and, if missing or non-operating, can result in a citation if your vessel is inspected by the Coast Guard.

The Vessel Safety Check give you a risk-free way to check that you get together the legal minimums and to potentially avoid a citation after that.

* Visit SafetySeal.net - A website devoted exclusively to the Vessel Safety Check program co-sponsored by the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary and the United States Power Squadrons.
* Contact a appendage of the Auxiliary at your local Marina.
The United States Sail and Power Squadron does free boat safety inspections, as does the Coast Guard Auxiliary. But it sounds similar to you need a ocean survey. Ask at your local boar yard if you can not find a pet name in the pallid pages.
