Can anyone explain the Intracoastal Waterway (ICW) buoyage system?

Why is it different than IALA?
What the small and yellow squares and triangles within the marks process?
Thanks.

Answers:    an easy style to use the triangles and squares is: Think of the squares as flat like the shore, keep them to seaside or ocean side, mull over of triangles as like mountains and hang on to them to the landmass side. It is crude and simple but works. Most importantly keep your chart and tide table handy, monitor the vhf for traffic, weather and safety broadcast, examine out for oncoming and passing traffic, look out of manatees and dolphins, watch for jetsam, crabtraps, read your guidebooks, and by the way, relax and delight in the trip. The ICW is a very nice trip if you do not tolerate a schedule ruin your fun.
It depends where on earth you are. In America, for instance the buoys used to mark a passageway are the opposite mode round to the rest of the world.
