Any BMW experts/technicians out near?

I drive a 318 year 2002, it keeps cutting out whilst i'm driving, one minute I'm driving after the power goes and all the lights on the tear comes on. It generally restarts itself by applying force back onto the accelerator. Someone suggested the drive shaft could be the bad habit!? any suggestions? is it an expensive job?

Answers:    It certainly isn't the drive shaft.

The problem is contained by the engine electronics or fuel system.

You need to take your saloon to a qualified BMW mechanic right away. Driving it like that is precarious.
straight into BMW onto the diagnostic machine.I was driving a clean ford with durotorque transmission the other light of day and it locked into second gear,i could only program neutral as the alternative, the warmth was normal,so it could not hold been overheated transmission.I solved it by switching bad the ignition and reprogramming the management computor. At fords, they found ,after much diagnostic twittering, that an electrical cable had a separated copper core, near no outward damage to the insulation, this caused an intermittent short/fault.A one sour they said, but it shows you how important it is to get it done properly at the correct place by the experts, even though BM CHARGE YOU AN ARM AND LEG. Which lights come on? if adjectives the dash lights come on, that suggests a power (battery etc ) problem, and the instrument cluster will restart and self test. If it stalls, or atempts to stall near your foot off the throttle, i would think this points more to languish control, which isn't letting enough air through to preserve the engine idling with a closed throttle.
The drive shaft? Sounds resembling a loose battery connection to me. It's within the trunk. I would think it would not be the battery. I come up with the battery is used to start the vehicle, then the alternator take over recharging the battery and supplying power to the vehicle. I never tried it on my BMW but i hold disconnected the battery on a Ford and a Chevy before while the engine be running and neither of them died. My guess would be ignition switch or main fuse wiring. I'm a motor stereo installer not a mechanic, so I could be wrong.
