Camshaft synchronizer?

Question:
How do I tell if it has gone bad? It's an expensive part so if it's just my CPS (0340) that needs to be replaced, I would rather just do that.

Answer:
this is a common problem with the cam sensor going bad. the reason being is the magnet is glued to the plastic sensor housing and the magnet drops down damaging the cam pick-up , a semi-circle thin wall that is in the synchro assembly. The cam sensor goes for about $40, the synchro assembly is roughly around $150-200. I just did my own ,assembly and sensor on my t-bird. But you'll need a cam sensor tool if you plan on doing it yourself.
I agree with fordever 100%

just adding that it's best to do it like the book says or other codes may appear and you can usually buy the tool at most of the national auto discount chains in the tool isle (depending upon the year and model)...

Best to buy the Ford parts..I think the syncro is a dealer only item from what I understand also
