A local dealer around here quoted a price of $550.xx alien...but at this point I'm not sure what to do...
Answers: There are VERY FEW parts used on an SVX which are compatible with other Subaru models. Go to the SVX World Network site for more info on your sports car. All the information you could possibly want about the SVX is available, including learned members beside helpful direction.
BTW, did the dealer-quoted price include installation? You can get an axle at Advance Auto Parts for roughly $70.00, and any competent Subaru mechanic can install it (if they have a lift) surrounded by a couple of hours. If they are not familiar near the SVX, check out the Network website for installation advice and how-to's.
There are also several member who have their own shops, if you want to be SURE you own a competent SVX mechanic.
You do not need to capture a new half-shaft, any more than you want a new alternator or a fresh starter. Remanufactured units typically flog for about $120
I would check around. I know MWE sell rebuilt Subaru axles presently, if you want better quality than NAPA http://www.ccrengines.com/mwe/index.html... If they don't hold one they will probably rebuild the one you own. The dealerships will rob you, I can usually find the same parts for my Outback online very soon for nearly half the price.
Contact Subaru Customer Dealer Service (CDS) surrounded by the corporate office surrounded by Cherry Hill NJ and they will point you in the right direction
