Will I know how to trade contained by my 2007 4runner for a 2008 highlander?

Three months ago, I got a 2007 4runner, V8 Sport Edition w/ 4WD. It's a gas guzzler. I draw from 16-19mpg on average. It has smaller amount than 6,000 miles on it and is practically in mint condition. I financed it and own paid past its sell-by date about $7,000 of roughly $36,000 on the auto loan.

I want to spend less on gas so I be wondering if I could trade it in for a brand alien 2008 Highlander spending any extra money and possibly reducing our payments. Would this be possible?

Answers:    Be advised that you won't be in your favour much gas by switching to a Highlander. The Highlander V6 4WD gets a combined 19mpg: http://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/compx2008...

The difference contained by MPG is so slight (2-3mpg tops), you will never recover the costs of trading contained by your 4Runner through gas savings alone over the lifetime of the Highlander.

In short, I wouldn't trade contained by your 4Runner for a Highlander. It won't make much of a difference and you will merely lose money.

If you want more substantial gas savings, you should consider the Ford Escape Hybrid 4WD. It get a combined 28mpg: http://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/compx2008...

I like the Escape Hybrid because Ford cross-licensed the hybrid technology beside Toyota, so Escape Hybrid has a drivetrain vastly similar to the Toyota Hybrid Synergy Drive, which has proven to be impressively durable and reliable.

You will still lose money trading in that 4Runner for an Escape Hybrid, but not as much. The gas nest egg will be more substantial, and the maintenance costs will also be lower-- The Escape Hybrid have a far simpler transmission (like the Hybrid Synergy Drive), it have no starter solenoid/motor, no timing belt, no alternator (less things to wear out), and uses regenerative braking so you won't need to conveyance the brake pads until after 100,000 miles.

Hope this help.
You may be "upside down" on your current car loan, substance that you owe more money than the car is worth. This will label it difficult, though not impossible to trade cars and refinance a newer car. Find a vendor or a finance company who is inclined to work with you.
