There is no comfortable way out of this for you, sorry to say-so.
The amount owed isn't the problem, it's the difference between trade in merit and amount owed. If you owe 30K and they give you 22K for it, the remaining 8K get added to your loan. Ouch.
Your best bet is to try a private sale for the amount owed. If ridiculous then do a search out for rebates available on current cars and find one you like near a large rebate on it. This time of the year unsold 2007 models will usually hold the best rebates. If possible go and get trade in quotes from several dealerships and use them to negociate the best business for yourself.
Trading in this soon after buying will head off you with oweing more later the vehicle is worth for some time. Think it through before doing it.
I know this doesn't really answer your give somebody the third degree but I wanted to permit you know that I have one of those, green and everything, because my husband fell surrounded by love with it and have to have it. As it turns out it is MY sports car now. As I drove it more, I started really enjoy it. The mileage gets a bit better after a while (not much though), it is particularly very comfortable and roomy. It runs great contained by nasty snowy weather. Now I couldn't dream of getting rid of it.
Give it a chance. You may soak up it as much as I do.
