Why did they not make a 1983 Corvette ?

Question:
I have heard they didn't make one but I was wondering why , Thanks for the info .

Answer:
In regard to the above answer. Chevrolet actually began production in 1981 in Bowling Green. If a 1981 Corvette was a solid color, it was built in St. Louis. If it were two tone, it was built in Bowling Green. This was due to a new paint process. All 1982 Corvettes were built in Bowling Green. The 1983 Corvette faced quality issues as well as supplier problems from wheels to the instrument cluster. Just in case the hybrid electronic instrument cluster didn't work, they had an analog backup which is on display in the Corvette Museum in Bowling Green. The bugs were worked out by March of 1983. 1984 production would have begun in June, so Chevy didn't want 1983 production to last just 4 months so they decided to skip 1983 and begin 84 production early. As a result all but one of the 1983 test cars were crushed. The remaining car is in the Museum. The 82 & 84 shared the same cross fire 350 V8. In 1985 a new Tuned Port 350 V8 arrived.
The '84 model was supposed to roll out in '83, but was so delayed because it was filled with problems that Chevy skipped the '83 year altogether.
They did not make a 1983 corvette because this was the big change in the models and they werer not ready to release it.
I had 2 friends that had a 1984 vette and they were nothing but problems!
the 1982 model was produced until feb.1983..in march they produced the 1984 model....the 84/85 model,s were identical..not really sure why they did this.
The 84 model was completely new front to back and top to bottom. They were not ready for the 83 model year so chevy skipped a year and released the car for 1984. They were the ground model for years to come, however the 1984 models were utter and total TURDS!!! Thanks,..Rob in PA.
They didn't make it because of production problems.
There was another reason besides "production problems" described above. The new C4 model was the first Corvette produced at Bowling Green, Ky. This was a brand new plant dedicated to one car...Corvette.

There were construction delays. GM didn't want to start a completely re-designed model in St Louis where Corvette production had stopped and another truck line had already been initiated and then have to do it again when Bowling Green was ready. It was decided to not produce a C4 Corvette until the plant was finished.
