I hold a 1991 dodge caravan next to a roar from the run or below the hood?

the sound seem to come from outside under the hood
it sounds approaching a small air compressor..this nouns happends when i start the car and also when i am braking or when i am stoped ...it also comes on and past its sell-by date when i have my foot on the brake while surrounded by gear == any one got any answers as what this may be

Answers:    it sounds similar to a brake booster on it going bad,that's the solitary thing i can imagine of that would do what you say its doing,try doing this ,enjoy someone mash the brake pedal and near the hood up look out their and see if you see or hear where its coming from,I'm curious on that one also,just thing i can cogitate of would be a brake booster,good luck next to it.
