The nouns conditioning contained by my 1996 dodge deisel truck will solely come out of the defroster and foot not the middle

could it be something with the vaccuum?

Answers:    your vacuum switch that operate the control is malfunctioning, fairly adjectives actually, its probably cracked or a vacuum hose is impossible or has fall off. the switch is at the back the dash, connected to the knob that you use to control where on earth the air blows.... upright luck , not that much fun to get into on some vehicle.
Yes, you have lost vacuum to your control switch, coming out of the defroster is a typical sign of vacuum loss.........
diesel engines don't produce vacuum so you hold a belt driven vacuum pump. Start with the pump and sort sure it's working then follow the vacuum hose to where on earth ever you find the leak. Sorry I don't remember where on earth the pump is on your engine I just know it's near.
