I am building a 48 chevy pu w/ a 700r4 out of a 84 camaro and it wont shift out of first..why? gratefulness, Adam?

Answers:    if you haven't got the detente cable on and in synch right it wont shift out if first gear, you have to adjust it until there's no slack within it at full throttle,id voice that's whats wrong with it,that's an unforced fix right there, simply open the throttle up and the cable should adjust its self, you may own to pull backbone on it though so it will take up the slack, perfect luck with it.
I am assuming that the 700-r is prior OBD2, and is a typical truck OD trans not using much computer nouns sensors....check to see that the governor inside the trans is spinning, and visually look to see that the counterweights on the governor have the springs inside them.
Also, it is adjectives for 700-r's to have a 3rd gear sprag engagement letdown, and the trans will not come out of 2nd gear, not first... until either lockup or overdrive kick in.
