An e46 M3 next to the s54 has timing secure tensioners also.
Don't believe what everyone posts here. Most of the answers are simply wrong. Look up the parts for yourself.
I would be interesting in knowing why you devise the tensioner might be a problem.
Normally, in any saloon with a secure tensioner, you don't have to verbs about it for at least possible 100,000 miles or more.
An m3 has a belt tensioner not a cuff tensioner. There are no signs, its just a preventative conservation thing that you call for to do every 50k miles. If the tensioner loosens the timing can go stale causing you to bend valve.
