Answers: the 8 inch because resembling stated above, it moves more air due to the size of the woofer man bigger. Also the 8 should have a lower frequency response... so it can play it better.. and altho its small (8 inch sub is super tiny) surrounded by a box made just for it, it will be alot louder. The article about subs are... the box is more celebrated than the sub. You can have a sub within a cheap generic box and it sound ok, but surrounded by the box its made for, tuned right, will sound soo loud. Here's an example:
Right very soon I have a 1100 watt amp feed a 2000 watt rms 12" @ 1 ohm. I have a cheap crappy ebay box (60 or so bucks) that's ported (has vent on side for 30% more bass). It sounds well-mannered, better than anything in my neighborhood... My rearview mirror vibrate so much i can't see out of it, and my sideview mirrors also. You can feel your full body shaking. With the right box its suppossed to be in (im getting shipped monday), it will consequently make my front, reverse, and side glass flex (yes the big window of your car). It doesn't do that now. That's how exalted boxes are.
That's a good sound out, speaker sounds when graphed out show kind of a strange butterfly effect graphic. ( readable by eye to humans ).
But across the world speaking the lower frequencies are attributed to the harmonic flexing of materials designed with the wherewithal to withstand the ubber thrust of sub frequencies.
As A human you can no doubt hear anything below 20 HZ.
So when you specify alike wattage, the larger cone is going to move more air ( more nouns ).
An easy assessment when you are at the Hi-Fi store is to bring a copy of Pink Floyd's, Dark side of the moon.
Ubber low frequencies.
Then also bring a copy of Rush 2112.
Which represents ubber channel separation.
Then start thinking almost what sounds good to YOUR ears.
