Putting an aftermarket radio in a 1997 pathfinder (non bose) The ground chain is gray, I do not get ground until antenna is plugged contained by (with nissan adapter) I did a test near the factory radio, and it also does not work until the antenna is plugged in. I believe it is getting ground from the antenna, the antenna does hold a second wire that I believe is the ground. Is this average for a nissan, is the radio getting ground from there or is plugging contained by the antenna completing a ground circuit in the nissan? If it is getting ground from near is that going to cause any problems?
Answers: look at the harness you are using or the plug from the vehicle the pin for the ground is missing of late cut from harness and connect to ground chassis, if you only use the antenna ground the fm reception will be impossible

The outer conductor on any antenna is ground, however the deck shouldn't be grounded solely through the antenna. The covering of the deck can be grounded to any part of the chassis that have ground potential.
