Answers: All 747's own them. It's used to clear the cockpit of smoke. It's just aft of the overhead circuit breaker panel. It can be used at any altitude. The differential pressure will force the smoke out and the airflow over the outlet will create a vacuum and aid suck out the smoke. I'll upload a pic tomorrow.
It's intended to evacuate any kind of smoke, even cigarette smoke from the cockpit but not from the passenger log cabin. In that case they'll turn sour the recirc fans, descend to a lower altitude and start up the outflow valves.
I don't know just about other planes, I'd imagine they adjectives have them, it's be a long time since I've worked on them.
