What would motive a motor turn signal to not work when it is raining outside?

It doesn't blink or even light up, it doesn't do anything. As soon as the sports car is dry again the signal works. It does it both directions. I am a D.I.Y'er but this one stumps me. The car I am refering to is a 2004 Chevy Malibu. Thanks.
