Suggestions beside overheating within coup¨¦ and long trip?

Alright, I've got to, beyond doubt HAVE to make a 6 hour drive up north. There's no if, and, or buts. I've be reading on a few tricks in shield serious overheating occurs. I believe my problem is a overflow. Pepper was one suggestion contained by the radiator after I put more water surrounded by, keeping it filled and checking periodically by have a jug of dampen on hand, and turning on the heating system full blast to help cool it. I own to make this trip, I can't play up it enough, but this seem to be my only problem. How long can I usually turn before checking on the amount of fluid I enjoy? Any other tips and tricks would be appreciative.

Oh, also...Im not a mechanical character by any means, but because I'm travelling on the interstate most of the time is it better to budge faster or take a slower method as to not put too much straight on my car?? I notice everytime Im on the highway I don't get as desperate as a heating problem, but within town it just skyrockets. Thanks for your sustain!

Answers:    Take this into, when your on the highway(interstate), your doing what 65mph, 70mph, so air is flowing fluids are rushing around resembling crazy. Air cooled helps too right.
While your contained by town, stop and go, stop and idle, the fluids don't flow around as fast and cool and fry as fast. So in a minute since there is no breeze at the speed your going at, the engine starts to cook because presently the heat is unconscious set and sitting in the engine cove making it hotter.

I hope you have a temp measuring device in your vehicle. This will relief you in seeing if your vehicle is starting to over bake. 1. if you see it get roughly speaking 3/4 or just a lil bit hotter than that, verbs over.
If you dont have a temp compute, well umm you must own a light that will turn on, limitation lights or what some people ring up idiot lights.

Water is good incentive it disapates heat the quickest.

i believe at Autozone within is a rad stop leak solution, give it a shot and see what happen, whats the worse that can happen it doesnt work. It wont injure your engine or make the escape any bigger than it already is.
I dont know how long your journey is, but 2 jug of AntiFreeze, plus 2 bottles of water. Not the tiny little bottles.

I am unsure to what vehicle you enjoy, so I forget after 96 I think nearby is a failsafe so that you can't over heat your vehicle, it does a automatic shut bad. If that happens you are waiting a couple hours till everything cool downs.

I would voice you might wanna leave a couple hours before, you might arrive earlier, but at lowest possible your there, and if at hand is any complications at least you tried to accomodate for some time.
Have you made ANY attempt to find out WHY your coup¨¦ keeps overheating? Is it a stuck thermostat or worn-out coolant or a hole within a hose or the radiator itself? You should really find out WHY, instead just treating the symptoms. You could find yourself stranded from something far worse than an overheated engine.

I other get my grease changed right before a long road trip (and the final two I've taken have be 7+ hours highway) and the guys at the quickie change other check the air filter, hoses, coolant, and belts.
Take the highway at 60 mph to keep profoundly of air blowing through the radiator. Stop when you have need of gas, but be prepared for a boil over (out the overflow tube) when you pull within, so park it where it can unhurriedly cool down (40 minutes) enough to be capable of remove the radiator cap and top rotten the radiator with marine. Repeat the whole procedure at the subsequent gas stop. If it overheats mostly when sitting in traffic, your cooling lover may not be coming on as it should. That's easy to fix back your trip. If you get stuck surrounded by a bumper to bumper backup, you'll have to verbs over and let it cool down much more regularly. Bring a roll of duct tape next to you for wrapping around any hose that bursts until you get to a garage. Don't forget your cell phone!
