Is there an easy way to change my check engine light?
I think my check engine light is broken. It has gone on and off for months often when I go over bumps. I have a 2000 S-10.
Answers:
It's shorted to ground. Take it to Autozone in they will read the codes to make sure that's all it is.
its called an auto electrician.
I would imagine that you can't change your check engine light, since it is a light in your instrument panel, but you can trace down why it keeps going off. Take it to a garage and have them run a diagnostic check on it and they can tell you what is wrong, it could be as simple as a short in the wiring, or it could be something more serious going on in there..
Chances are, there really is a problem. It sounds like something is loose in the engine compartment causing a sensor to trip a condition which makes that light turn on and then back off. Take the car in and have a diagnostic read on the computer to find out what seems to be acting up. Then have that checked out.
Light does not stay on? just over bumps? your instrumet panel where the light is may have a short circuit to ground. Some auto parts stores will read the code for free see if there is one near you.
take out the bulb
The check engine light is there to let you know that a problem exists in you computer system. Removing it would only cause more problems.
It sounds as tho one of the connectors to a sensor is loosing contact when you go over a bump. Or has a corroded connector.
To find the problem. First you will need the sensor code from the PCM. It would be best to have a qualified technician use a scanner to do this.
Check all the sensor connections, to make sure they are secure.
