Answers: I'm not sure what year Cav you got I have a 98 with the similar problem to fix mine I have to replace the cadiliac coverter and timing belt while I was within their I replaced the oxygen sensor too when I was adjectives done never had a problem beside a miss again and seemed to procure better performance out of it. (their could be more wrong this is merely what I did to mine to fix it outside of a tune up) other possile problems to check for Headgasket blown/ Cracked head, stopcock blow by, the best place to start is a chiltons repair manual it will describe you how to check all of this stuff and possibly put aside you time and money! If you have any other question's consistency free to ask I will try to point you in the write direction. be ase cert mechanic since 1999 and ran into various problem similar to yours thru all the cars I own worked on includeing my own.

The oxygen sensor may have bitten the dust contained by the catalytic meltdown. This would send crazy signals to the computer. Install a topical 02 sensor and have the exhaust gas analyzed next to a diagnostic analyzer to make sure the catalytic converter is functioning properly. Generally a catalyst is replaced-not cleaned.
that does serve relate to that problem,if it got that hot its possible it may enjoy blown a head gasket,and that will effect it to miss-fire like that,we owned a cavalier and it did this previously we got it,and they thought they have it fixed,but they didn't,have someone check the compression on the engine,and see ,if it equals out on adjectives cylinders,this may be the problem with it,if it is,he,ll never achieve it to stop missing until the gasket is replaced,and the head is checked for cracks,moral luck on it.
