Answers: could be your alternator if it just died. the battery-operated wouldnt charge therefor no more pwer and the brakes would barely work if you pushed them after the engine died because the power brakes would stop and the hydraulic pressure would build up and trademark it very rugged to even push the petal...
Any time your engine is not running, it will be difficult to operate the brakes and steering if they are power-assisted, and I believe they all are at present. So the problem did not start with your brakes. You could enjoy had something contained by the fuel line that plugged one of the fuel filter so the engine died because it wasn't getting any gas. When the engine stops, the suction on the filter is relieved so the blockage can drift back and allow the fuel to flow again. If the mechanic didn't do any sort of repairs, this might explain why your coup¨¦ engine stopped suddenly and then be able to start again.
If it happen again, you might need to drain the sludge out of the gas reservoir and replace the fuel filter(s).
