First try using a good screw driver, with a hammer. Hold the screw driver in the screw, tap with hammer while turning the screw. Should get at least one or two. Try filing two flat sides on the screw heads and griping with grip pliers. Drill the screw heads off with a drill and bit. Make the bit a little bigger than the screw shaft. You should be able to remove the plates and then grip the screws with grip pliers. The drill bit should have done the trick. If not get an easy out set from a auto parts store. They can tell you how to use it.
Good Luck

Try an impact driver. You hold it and hit it with a hammer. If that doesn't work, you could just jb weld the new one on top of the old one.
drill a small hole in the center of the screw then use an easy out, or you could tack weld a bolt onto the screw
Buy a screw extractor set for $5-$10. They are reverse-threaded and so tighten into the stripped screw as they loosen it.
Look on the back of where your screws go see if the back is plastic if is knock the plastic out get new ones put them in then get new screws,or keep bending your old plates back and forth until the old plates break off then you should be able to get a pair of vicescrips on the screws, clamp vicescrips on tight, you should be able to unscrew the striped screws then, witch is easer than the plastic pieces try the second one first, good luck hope it works.
go to Sears or most any hardware store. They sell a screwdriver bit that is designed to dig in and remove screws just like that. It works like a charm... :-)
there's also something called Valve Grinding Compound. Its like $3 and can be found at any auto parts store...it works very well as something to put in the screw head to gain some grip.
After that, an easy out, also available at auto parts stores.
If you have a dremel tool, use the large cutting tool and cut a slot in the head of the screw, then remove them with a slotted head screw driver
