I have a 1986 Chevy Cavalier HGV. It has only just started miss fireing or backfireing which ever it is called and it have also been a headache in the butt to start. We know its not the timing tie up, the starter, the fuel pump or the ignition module. This being our solely vehicle we really need to find out what is wrong the cheapest method possible. What could be causing both of these things to start scheduled at the same time?
Answers: General Turn-up; Replace Plugs! Inspect, Test, Clean or Replace Wires, Distributor Timing call for adjustment, Clean Carburetor/Throttle Body & Injectors.
It sounds like a ignition timing problem. If it isn't the cuff or the ignition box, you might need to adjust the timing.
