I hold a give somebody the third degree give or take a few gas mileage for my 1992 Ford Tempo?

I recently bought a used 1992 Ford Tempo that have a redone engine in the region of 70,000 miles ago. I am getting horrible gas mileage on this car. I changed the upper air filter, fuel filter, and did a fuel injection cleaning. When I drive at 70 MPH the engine revs up to 3500 RPM and I cannot find any overdrive butten ANYWHERE in the motor. I have have this one friend tell me that the use my gas mileage is bad is because it is not kicking into overdrive and that I have need of to take it to a mechanic. I don't want to clutch it to a mechanic if I don't have to because it will cost a fortune. Can anyone confer me advice? Do you ruminate it is the overdrive? Is it normal for a sports car to rev at 3500 RPM at 70 mph? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks...

Answers:    My girlfriend have the same sports car, these cars weren't made for economy, the vehicle has a T3 trans w/no overdrive so it is run of the mill to rev so high at 70mph. You should own all the vacuum lines checked and spawn sure the timing is correct.
check transmission fluid
