My 79 Blazer's GAS GUAGE says EMPTY but its full.. how do I fix it?

Question:
???

Answer:
Hi There!

go to the back of the vehicle and disconnect the single wire that goes to the fuel sender in the fuel tank. Turn the ignition on. Touch the wire to the bumper or any ground.

if the guage goes all the way full: then you need a new fuel sender in the tank.

if the guage does not move then the wiring to the guage or the guage is at fault.

any good pick n pull will sell you a guage for $100 around here in san jose California.

a new sender will run close to $40.

I hope this helps. Good Luck!
Maybe it's your truck telling you it's time to DEPART ways!
It either has a bad sending unit, or a short somewhere between the dash and the gas tank.
Without knowing a bit more about the vehicle, I am going to guess that it's your fuel guage sending unit. I believe that on this vehicle, it is located in the fuel tank.

Call around for prices (they're not that expensive), get it, drop the tank, get a repair book, and from there it should be pretty self explanatory.
I think it is likely a bad ground. Shine up a little corner of the tank (it does have a metal tank doesn't it?) and run a wire to a good ground, and see if it works. If that works, you might be able to rig it on a reasonably permanent basis. The silver anti seize works well to keep a good electrical contact.
Check ground on tank. If that's not it replace sending unit.
You need to drop the gas tank and check the sensor... most of the time the ground gets corroded and then the connection is bad. The problem is the sensor, I have done many of them on many cars.
