Answers:    loads of oil on outside, no grease on inside, 50mph top end = terminal. time to win a new sports car.
sounds like you obligation a new vehicle mate
exit stage left its knackered
hmm,

conceivably put in more grease and press the accelerator a wee bit further down,

sorry sounds goosed to me.
ITS fuc... srap it
Carbuerettor? It may just be that ya motor is getting a bit feeble. If you are getting through oil that suddenly thats not a good sign.
Got a hurtful feeling it's Failed Under Continuous Testing. I'd carry another mechanic (not the one who did your tappets) to look at it.
Oil isnt the only article that makes a saloon go faster, fuel and nouns flow and the driveshaft and gearbox make the vehicle go faster.
Listen to the saloon, what does it sound close to the problem is?
To be honest, its probably better getting a new saloon. Its only going to be worth a few hundred quid at most.
One of the signs that you have need of to have the tappets done is that the engine slows down. Are you sure that they hold done the job properly? Perhaps you should clutch it back to whoever did the tappets.

Was the grease filler cap screwed on properly? The amount of boil in the grease tank can organize to oil individual sprayed on to underside of bonnet and around engine housing, and would also leave you near little oil contained by the system.
Fill it up again and check it regularly - morning before you go off and evening when its cooled down - to get a pious idea of how much you are really using.
If the grease is around the base of the engine housing later maybe a gasket or column has bungled.
Another reason for losing power is skipper gasket problems. If its the head gasket you usually also use heaps of water- but that's MAJOR!
That will inculcate you to buy a ford. do the sensible thing and draw from rid and don't go for another ford
Try a Toyota it wont tolerate you down when its 10 years old.
Dropping it from a great rise would make it walk faster than 50mph, and improve it massively in the long residence.
This is a long shot especially going on the age of the car,but it could be a to some extent blocked silencer. They fall apart inside so you dont see it,but largely the car will bring slower and slower Try putting your hand close to the exhaust at the flipside and try a comparison to another vehicle using a few revs Be lucky
