This time though it wasn't until I attempted to drive the vehicle after several failed attempts of turning the engine on and rotten that the pas started again.
I have checked the power steering fluid level which my manual stated shoud be between the max and min results on the dip stick. Low and behold there are no such results on said dipstick, which frankly doesn't look much like a dip stick anyway!
I don't know how much to put within as I don't want to put in too much. Can anyone facilitate?!
Answers: There is no dipstick on the Saxo P.A.S. reservoir. There are min and max marks on the bottle. As long as the fluid is between these results the steering should work ok. There are several other common reason for the system to go wrong. The Saxo system uses an electric pump which runs when the coup¨¦ is started. The most common one is the electrics to the ignition switch. Start the car. Does your heated backside window and heating system blower work? All these 3 components work on the same circuit, when one of them go off the other two usually move about off at equal time. If not then proceed as follows-
1. Check your ignition switch. Does the push button turn easily? If it's stiff to turn at hand may be a fault inside the switch and my need replacing.
2. Remove the steering cowl. There are 3 comnnectors going to the ignition switch. Disconnect the brown one. On the prime harness side cut off the connector and merge the 2 wires together, either by soldering or a biddable quality crimp connector. This communal must be made good so if you aren't competent satisfactory have someone do it for you who know their stuff. Now start the car. Do the steering, blower and H.R.W. work? If so undertaking done. This by the way is an approved Citroen fix. It's cause by a fault inside the switch. If it still doesn't work consequently....
3. If the car is a mk1 (with a keypad immobiliser) in attendance is a relay which can work loose, it's above the fusebox, between the glovebox and the bulkhead side panel, it's difficult to get your paw on. See if it's secure. If the sports car is a mk2 ignore this one. If it's a mk2 look at the grey relay attached to the underbonnet fusebox aft the passenger side headlamp. Is it secure and are the connectors fitting?
4. If it still doesn't work Check the live feed and land to the pump. There should be battery voltage at the pump next to the engine running. If the live feed and mud are ok i would suspect a faulty pump. If the floor is duff have it fixed. If here is no live feed check the alternator output and the electrics from the alternator to the pump. If the alternator is faulty this will also lead to the pump to not work.
5. I have singular seen this start once. All 3 componentes were inop; the fuse for the blower have blown, when we replaced the fuse everything worked ok until the blower was set on glorious speed, the fuse blew and in turn this knock of the power steering and H.R.W. with it. A unsullied blower cured the fault.
I own listed these fault as the most common one first. When you say-so the system switches on and off i would suspect the ignition switch electrics first. Let me know how you get on near it.
With the engine off, the even should be visible surrounded by the fluid resevoir about partly full.If you cant see the fluid, put enough within so you can,put the lid back on,start the motor and move the steering wheel from lock to lock a few times to saturate the rack and its pipes.Switch the engine off, and check and top up if neccessary.Hope this help
