Answers: one side of the pedal always breaks past its sell-by date,you can remove the door panel and see if this is whats happened to it,if so that can be replaced authentic easy.you can bring back a good used one or a foreign one ,also look and make sure the rod that go down to the latch assembly isn't come loose on it,that will also cause it not work from the out side ,perfect luck with it.
You could try spraying WD-40 into the push button lock and into the lock mechanism at the side of the door. But later you need to remove the inside door panel screw to see why the mechanism isn't working.
