(Car Mechanics) What should I do just about my saloon?

I have a 1997 Volvo 960. I be driving down the street when my brakes failed on me. I pressed down on the brake and the saloon kept rolling. I pressed harder and it started to slow but also made a few thuds sounds (thud, thud, thud). I immediately took it to the mechanic and he said it be my anti-lock break system and if it happens again, it would obligation replacing. Other than that, he wouldn't change them because it might be a throw away of money. Since this incident, it hasn't happened but I don't have a feeling comfortable driving the car. He also said the brakes and pad look fine and the front tire looks slighly worn and that I didn't need to replace any.

Answers:    It is more than likely your ABS system. It plentiful not happen again...he is right... but if you dont get the impression confortable driving it then capture another one. A used one (I am a mechanic and own a salvage yard...I RECYCLE AUTO PARTS) would run you 150 to 250 plus the install. The ABS is not designed to turn bad if there is a glitch....it individual malfuntions..(unless they change them on 05 up) You can simply unplug the power to it and it will work like regular brakes. I have to do it on my Yukon..they will work fine..but no ABS...Any questions tolerate me know
bring it to a VOLVO service center,,, a general mechanic may not know of those symptoms, where on earth a VOLVO mechanic may have see this problem a hundred times and will know exactly what to replace to fix it.
