Hi, I just acquire a 1990 F350 5.8 auto and the truck has a problem getting started. To start I hold to turn the key onto the on position and push a start button to start it, at one and the same time giving it gas and hold it at idle next to the gas for a minute ("warming up")until it idle by itself or else it stalls. The problem is that it does this every time. Weather its cold outside, worse, or thaw outside slightly, less time. Also if I start it, run it for similar to 20 minutes then travel start it again, I have to still hold the gas to.
I'm not sure whats wrong or what wishes replacing, any ideas???
Answers: Check the IAC, located on the throttle body. Pull it sour. It could be clogged by carbon. Sometimes you can clean them out next to carb cleaner but if it is too clogged you will have to replace it.
Sounds resembling the choke is not working on the carburettor if it have one or the cold start valve on efi bring it to a specialist as it is not something most people can do themselves
